The ghost towns are abandoned villages or towns, but there are no ghosts in them unfortunately. However it is always amazing to see how people abandon their life behind just like that.

Gunkanjima (軍艦島) officially known as Hashima Island (端島) is an abandoned island in Nagasaki. I had the luck to go there one beautiful November day back in 2010, and one more time in June 2012.

Shiraiwa Village

Shirawai Village is lost in the mountains in Saitama Prefecture. A little trek is required to find the village, that is actually quite small and scattered on a wide perimeter.

The Kaso School and the Ozaku Village really came as a surprise. The school is rather empty (except for a few books and chairs), but the village next to it, although really small, holds a mysterious aura.

There was a path in the past, but now it's completely hidden under rocks, fallen trees, and dirt.

Nichitsu Ghost Town covers a vaste area filled up with apartments, a post office, a town hall, a school and a clinic.
