Matsuo Mine (松尾鉱山) was once the largest sulfur mine in Japan. Standing in the abandoned concrete blocks in the middle of nowhere, it is hard to imagine that 15.000 people used to live here. The after effect, however, has matched well with the scale: it is costing Iwate Government more than half a billion a year to deal with the left-overs of Matsuo Mine.
